State Newsletter January-February 2012

Dear Catholic Daughters, Regents, Father Scott and local Court Chaplains,

David and I recently returned from a cruise vacation to the caribbean.  We enjoyed the sunshine and 80 degree temperatures.  It was quite a shock to come back to snow and freezing rain. On one of our tours I sat on the bus beside Lillian, who is from Long Beach, NY.  When we passed a Catholic Church she made the sing of the cross, so I had to ask "are you a Catholic?" She is a Catholic and has been a Catholic Daughter for 48 years.  Naturally we talked CDA and if we are lucky may meet again at the National Convention in Omaha. She was a wonderful lady. We had afternoon tea together several times.

STATE CONFERENCE
Dear ladies, we are getting closer to the time, please remember the State Workshop and Conference is April 20, 21 & 22.  A preview of the workshop was in the November-December newsletter.  Your officers along with the Lebanon & Albany courts have been working hard so you will have a informative & spiritual weekend.  The work shop will be especially helpful to anyone who is planning to or is interested in applying for a local court office in the spring.

Regents, please update and bring your court boards to the conference.  I am asking that a representative from each court give a one minute talk on a service project that they did or supported this past year.  Send or email a written copy to Irene Duda, 6931 SW Montauk Circle Lake Oswego 97035 ieduda@hotmail.com.

Mary Beth Vanella, from the Albany court has crocheted a colorful blanket that will be raffled at the workshop to raise money for the state court.  I will be sending tickets & a picture of the blanket to each court   so they may sell tickets in advance.

FATHER TAAFFE HOMES

I received the following information from Patrick Rice, Oregon state Deputy of the Knights of Columbus.  The director of the Father Taaffe Foundation, Jim Seymour, states that they have a private donor who will match donation funds throughout the entire year for 2012.  This is great opportunity for Catholic Daughters to send their contributions and have them matched.

STAND UP GIRL.COM

standUpGirl.com is a charitable organization dedicated to providing pregnant, at risk, and interested adolescent and young adult women with insight into alternatives to abortion.  This is our newest state project, remember to support it.

STATE PROJECTS

Has your court made any donations to the state projects, yet?  If so, thank for all of your donations.  Many courts have held fund raisers for specific state projects.

For the courts who have not donated to the state projects, now is the time to start thinking about your donations. We ask that each court would consider donating at least $10 for each of the state projects.  We are aware that some courts support their local charities.  Over the years, the State Projects have been voted on at the conventions by all of the CDA delegates; therefore, it is recommended that the individual courts support the State Projects.

For more information, visit the state web site or contact the State Project Chairman, Tess Cersovski at courtoregon118@yahoo.com.  Please send your donations to the State Secretary or deposit it directly into the state checking account and then notify the State Treasurer, Sharon Sever.

Thank you and God bless you all!
